Radio/Podcasting

Before entering the world of folklore, I worked as a host, writer and producer for NPR public radio affiliate in northwest Arkansas where I created and hosted the Saturday version of our local news, arts, and culture program, Ozarks at Large. Radio continues to be one of my favorite mediums of communication---it is a free service, activates the imagination, and places emphasis on the human voice and story.

Radio and Youth Education

Radio is also a great teaching tool for youth. While in graduate school I created podcasts for the Kentucky Remembers! programs, which are used as promotional tools and sample podcasts for the student lesson plans.

Persistent Story: Russellville's Black Bottom Historic District and the West Kentucky African American Heritage Museuem

While in graduate school I partnered with Michael Morrow and the West Kentucky African American Heritage Museum to produce the film Persistent Story: Russellville's Black Bottom Historic District and the West Kentucky African American Heritage Museum. This film is used by the Center for educational and promotional purposes and will be archived in the upcoming Kentucky African American Encyclopedia. I am grateful to Dr. Kristin Dowell who taught our film producation class and helped me to acquire these skills.
